The site was chosen for the construction of the National Concert Hall “TAUTOS NAMAI” which is at the top of Tauras Hill. An exceptional site, protected and steeped in history in Vilnius. Visible from the city center and the historic center from where the views are breathtaking the whole territory. The building we propose, in addition to meeting all the requirements of programmatic and technical efficiency, will constitute a landmark in the urban landscape of Vilnius.
It is placed on the hill assuming its role, following a historical logic specific to the outstanding buildings whose dialogue is established with the territory.
In its distant perception, the silhouette of the building will complete the crest of the hill with the evanescent materiality of its crystalline dress. During the day, it will appear as an open building bathed in light, reflecting the color of the sky. At night, a “lantern” effect will take place by positively marking its presence as an agent of cultural intensity and openness.
The idea of placing the central foyer in the north-south axis of the site, as a connecting element between the two concert halls is the founding and structuring gesture of the architectural project: It materializes the transparency and permeability of the building between the panorama of the city in North and the park of the old evangelical cemetery to the South it will be the space to feel the subtle the link between the ground at the top of the Tauras hill and the Vilnius sky.
On both sides of the foyer, the two halls take place and the whole project is organized according to a logic of openness to the four orientations. Public entries are proposed according to the different origins of the flows in order to obtain a maximum permeability between the public spaces of the surroundings and the activities accessible to the public.
