The Núcleo Mucuchíes, located in the Rangel Municipality of the State of Mérida at an altitude of almost 3,000 meters above sea level in the town of Mucuchíes, as a part of the system of musical training centers coordinated by the Simón Bolívar Musical Foundation (El Sistema ) and is presented as the local headquarters of the Youth and Children’s Orchestras and Choirs of the town and the region. It has study and musical practice rooms designed and organized to accommodate the different sections that make up a symphony orchestra.
The building is located on a terrain with a steep slope to the north, with an enviable view of the mountains that frame the Mucuchíes valley. The building is accommodated parallel to the eastern boundary of the plot occupying both corners, creating these three terraces that promote contact with the street and that at the same time allow organizing the program in three volumes.
The Núcleo Mucuchíes has an Experimental Room that has a capacity of 250 spectators and can receive 100 musicians on stage. This room is conceived to be the meeting place of the town, being versatile enough to allow plays, assemblies, or other events of cultural and social relevance. Its location within the volume of the academic areas, in turn, allows its users to be multipurpose so that when it is not being used for concerts it can be used as a general rehearsal room.
The opening of the façade also reinforces the dialogue character of the building with its surroundings, as well as its desire to create a new civic center around musical activity, not only for the locality but also for the region, an epicenter of encounter and a place that generates tourist interest and growth.
