The new Amarillo music school is tucked-in under a large housing slab in Caracas. The program combines theory classes, individual practice rooms, an ensemble rehearsal room, a theater studio, and a workshop for instrument making and repairs (luthier). The facades of the larger music ensemble and theater spaces open to the outdoors.
Framed within the public plan of urban amenities, this project aims to convert unused commercial premises in the low-floor residences of social interest in the center of Caracas into spaces of social-cultural investment through musical training, lutherie, and performing arts of children and adolescents of the communities.
A proposal is developed that bets on transparency and openness to the public space through large folding doors, which when raised blur the limits of the public and private and stable a direct relationship with its environment and its community
We started this project at the beginning of 2015 and began to build with a team made up of community members and worker cooperatives with whom we established a dynamic of work and cooperation as well as the beginning of the transfer of knowledge on acoustic furniture and noise control.
Unfortunately, the work stopped in 2018 because of the political and economic conditions of the country
