Strusshamn is a harbor with significant cultural significance to Bergen and to Askøy, with its role as a safe harbor for ships that were sailing to Bergen but needed somewhere to wait. With its small white houses it can remind one of a southern Norwegian town with its tranquility and calmness. At the same time Strusshamn has been an important industrial part of Askøy with the boat, the mattress, and the Shoddy factory.
With our proposal we want to preserve the Strusshamn spirit by keeping the old factory with a modern twist and creating houses that keep while developing the essence of a Sørlandsby that you get when entering this sheltered area.
The new city center we are developing is a place to celebrate the old while bringing us together into the future. By keeping the old factory structure we are not only preserving the essence of the area, but also complying with the UN bærekraftsmål and ensuring that those who move here can feel that they are taking part in preserving Strusshamn.
